Party
Building: I Want You
- For The Green Party
If you have
ever considered running for an elected public office (and even if you haven't),
the Georgia Green Party needs you. Having more candidates running (and
winning) as Green Party candidates can only help our name recognition and
standing as a viable party.
Never doubt
the power of one person to bring about change. If you have it in you to
stand up and fight for your convictions, then perhaps our Green Candidate
Development Project is for you.
The Georgia
Green Party Candidate Development Program
The state Coordinating
Council of the Georgia Green Party agreed to launch a Candidate Development
Program. The intent of this Program is to "work between election
cycles to recruit, train and develop candidates who will seek public office
and to support the development of their campaigns to obtain ballot access,
do voter contact and identification work, raise campaign funds, enroll
and develop campaign staff and volunteers and to wage successful campaigns
for electoral office in Georgia."
Applications
For The 2002 Class Are Now Being Accepted
Now is your
opportunity to also get involved. If you are committed to the Green's
Ten Key Values as a basis for organizing, and are considering running for
public office in either 2001 or 2002, please consider downloading, completing
and returning the Application.
All applications
will be considered by the Coordinating Council. The Council will
meet in Athens to consider applicants for the 2002 class. And a Program
Applicant Orientation will be scheduled for late January or early February.
Program Participants
will be expected to faithfully attend three workdays each calendar quarter,
to help raise minimal Program costs, to participate in bi-weekly phone
conferences, engage in peer coaching relationships with other candidate-participants
and complete homework assignments from each work day and phone conference.
Usually but not always, the workdays will be scheduled as one three-day
weekend long event every three months. Not more than three week-days
a year will be scheduled as Program work days.
Your acceptance
into this Program does not constitute a Nomination or Endorsement.
According to state law and our internal rules, only our Nominating Conventions
may make nominations in partisan races. But this program will be
designed to support your seeking and winning, not just our Party's nomination
but also ballot access and election to the public office you seek.
You'll be supported by your peers in the Program and by our Party.
Deadline
For Applications Fast Approaching
If you would
like to apply for this program, please download the Application
and a Affidavit
of Candidacy. For further information, refer to the Rules.
Applications
received by April 28th will be considered at the Athens Council meeting
either before or after the Convention. Applications received by the
May 19th Convention will be considered at the June Council meeting.
If you have
any questions about the program, the application process or participant
expectations, don't hesitate to call 706-896-7464 or to write.
I look forward
to working with you in support of your campaign as a Green candidate for
public office. Together we will continue to build this Party and
take our government back, setting it on a just and sustainable path for
our future.
