Green Party Picks Gates For Coverdell's Seat
Jeff Gates, the internationally
known author, lecturer and legislative advisor, has accepted the nomination
of the Georgia Green Party as its candidate for the November special election
to fill the vacant Senate seat of the late Paul Coverdell.
Gates On The Green Party
Gates explained that
his reasons for seeking the Green Party nomination stem from a combination
of both conservative and democratic values. “I’m allied with the Green Party
because it has emerged as the party of genuine conservatism. As Greens,
we’re committed to preserving those core values to which this nation is
committed -- liberty, personal dignity, political equality, civil cohesion.
We’re also the party of the real democrats because we aim to deepen democracy
with a policy environment attuned to inclusion by addressing today’s obscene
economic inequality. We’re also the genuine reform party because our compass
is set by the requirements of posterity -- sensitive to commercial concerns
but committed to reforms that advance human and environmental values. We
propose to replace those leaders who would have us led by the fickle tastes
of finance and by the notoriously unreliable values of Wall Street.”
